General PCMark05 submission rules

Citation
Any online PCMark05 submission must comply to the following rules:

    use default PCMark settings
have a valid screenshot (see example below): clearly show PCmark score, PCmark settings, processor and memory settings in CPU-Z, GPU-Z, Subtest Scores (XP startup speed!), unless you have a valid futuremark ORB url
have a valid futuremark orb link as verification for scores in the top 20
No ramdisk, ramcache or MFT software allowed
    220MB/s XP startup cap
Benchmark must run on default web browser (Internet Explorer, any version) and default audio/video codec
Browser enhancement tweaks such as disabling/removing features, plugins, make-up etc are allowed
Audio and video codec tweaks are allowed. Powertoy is, as GUI for the registry, allowed

It is your responsibility, and the responsibility of your team captain(s) that these rules are followed properly. Your submission may be blocked by hwbot crew without notice if your submission is in violation of one of these rules. Multiple infractions may lead to a warning, and eventually an account ban.
Forbidden hardware and tweaks

Forbidden Software or Hardware:

    - software ramdisk (iRam is allowed)
    - MFT Software
    - ramcache software

Forbidden Tweaks:

    - any software or human interaction altering the perceived speed of the benchmark program, tricking it to believe it ran faster

IE9   :

codecs audio/video

The mouse tweak for Transparent windows should be listed, too - just move the mouse while the test is running. Aero must be enabled.
WMV Power Toy helps the WMV subtest - can't remember the exact settings, but I'm sure someone else can help us ou

Also... And fairly obviously, don't be afraid to try negatives

Update hardware recognition and looks like it solve the WMEcoder stuff (Only one thread).
I saw an improvement in the score always having the latest SystemInfo installed when using latest hardware

Gestionnaire de sessions du Gestionnaire de fenêtrage" actif sinon le Transparent Window est mauvais(c'est aussi valable sur Seven).

I saw some improvements changing mouse properties (speed and visibility).

transparent windows, set mouse max sensitivity and show trace.
move the mouse over the subtest

3rd ) Change again to win7 aero theme (or "characters" theme as it works better for me) .
4th) Test the transparent subtest

If you don't get it with the first , try it again. I managed to get it working on 3 difference PC's .

General Tweaking:

Windows Vista have the best ''Transparent Windows'' score.
Windows 7 have the best overall score.
Some say that Windows 8 is the fatest (some info about Windows 8 here: http://hwbot.org/forum/showthread.php?p=147820 ).

Use an ATI/AMD Radeon HD 5850/5870 - 6950/6970
ATI CCC 11.7 is not bad so far

Disable HyperThreading for 4core CPU and more.

Note: PCMark05 doesn't scale with more than 4 Threads so you can use only 4 Core on 6-8 core CPU for higher overclocking.

PCMark05 doesn't scale with more than 1 Graphics Card.

Turn On Aero (1):
Go to colour settings (2) and disable ''Transparency''
Move other settings to 0 can also help.
Then Save your PCMark Theme (2)

Is there anyone (poor) who still use hdd for the pcmark05 like me ??

If yes... I found a cheap trick that can give a little boost to xp startup, hdd general usage and hdd virus scan: Ready Boost.

Take a pendrive and dedicate it to readyboost. Do the first run....then do the second. You'll notice an improvement

I will post a screen late.

By the way, my xp startup is currently around 800MB/s. I can dial it in to score between 205MBs - 220MBs consistently.

Using IOmeter I use the following settings:

Size (sectors) - 204800
Access Type - 32k 100% read
Time (seconds) -15s
# of workers - 1 or 2
# of I/O - adjust as necessary, 5 to 20 is a good starting point

The rest you can leave at default, or configure as you wish.
__________________

Addendum: You may need to manually edit access specification file size to tune things in - iometer effectiveness at pulling down your XP startup score can vary a lot if your unpulled down score is 500MB/s+. In testing, it took five minutes to dial it in on an e8400 and a 2600k, however an e6600 on the same platform as a e8400 took like half an hour... Sometimes the effectiveness of pulling the score down varies, even when using the same iometer settings. So you have to adjust.

install OS in sata mode : raid
then install Rapid Storage Technology

( this should be the link )

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...ology&lang=eng

Put SSDs in raid by this utility and with write back : enabled

you should gain much in general usage , virus scan and something in memory access

Citation
Use latest firmware for SSD.
Use latest Intel RST - not from official Intel site, look at station-drivers for example. See driver build date in .inf-file, not version number.
Use small stripe size (try 4, 8 or may be 16) and enable write-back cache.
Run TRIM manually every time before you make RAID with SSD.
First run after you make RAID always better, because there is still no TRIM support for RAID.
Every next run without rebuilding and trimming RAID will be worse than previous.
Don't use RAID partition for XP Startup, if possible, use some other storage (single SSD, RevoDrive, etc).
Don't write anything on RAID partition.
Disable creating all temp/system files/folder for RAID partition ($RECYCLE.BIN, System Volume Information, etc.).
This is only for SSD in RAID, you don't need it for iRAM/Acard.

And the most important part - don't use slow SSD: no SATA2, no Intel, no SandForce, and no less than 120 Gb.
For now, I can only recommend Crucial m4, Corsair Performance Pro and Plextor M3.

If we are giving it all away I might as well help a little - for xpstart up limiting - many ways - all involve making just enough read contention on the test drive -

1. use a h/w raid controller with its own cat5 and change controller settings to slow down the read rate
2. use an external thumb drive and do a copy operation to the test drive during the test - most folks use this
3. use crystal disk mark during test
4. this is the one i use almost exclusively now but there is a learning curve - iometer executed from a saved config file via a .bat

Can't blame a guy for guessing. You did have shell32 on your desktop.

Write-back cache is standard functionality of many software, comes with both on-board and discrete RAID-controllers. Intel RST, AMD RAIDExpert, Promise WebPAM, etc. It is already used for ages for PCMark scores, way before someone discovered third-party caching software like Fancy Cache or Super Cache.
There is a big difference between that two types of software with caching ability.
Third-party software can use so much RAM for cache that you want, and it gives you performance very close to RAM Disk driver (if have enough RAM installed).
"Bundled" software that comes with hardware not allow you to specify amount of ram for cache and don't have "mirroring partition" feature. You can only enable or disable that option. And if enabled it gives the same boost no matter how much system RAM you use - 4 Gb or 64 Gb.

okay guys a few guys still having problem with bob tweak, easy way to do it,

1. open pcmark, then open the details tab, where you normally see the game tests displayed
2. change theme to classic
3. lock computer
4. unlock computer
5. you will notice the details tab is now an inverted grey, now you know the tweak has worked
6. change back to aero theme

also mess with you themes for more FPS, bob put all of this in his video, but unless you watch it really closely you cant see what he is doing that is importan

ROFL...

Sad but true... We all thought the "Rabbid Mouse Tweak" worked; and it does to a certain extent.

Here's the reasoning behind why it doesn't and why getting the pointer out of the way is best.

- Try the TW test and leave the mouse alone right after you hit the "Start Benchmark" button... that should leave the pointer somewhere in the middle of the screen. You'll notice that the windows move around fast, but slow down when they get closer to the area where the pointer was left.

- Now run the test again and move the mouse like a mad man... You will now see that the windows move faster, but some of them still appear to hit a slow patch at certain points.

- Now run the test and move the mouse pointer to the corner so that no windows can go over it. You'll get a higher score.

I'm not sure, but I'm willing to bet the windows that come in contact with the pointer are the ones that get slowed down and throw your score off. And the reason the "rabbid mouse tweak" kind of worked is because by moving it like crazy the tendency is to rotate the pointer around the edges of the screen (you may not see it, but the momentum you put on the mouse when shaking it like crazy will make the pointer get closer and closer to the edges of the screen) and being far out to the edge means that it has less chance of hitting a moving window so they all move faster... You still hit one or two every once in a while and they slow down. Just move the mouse out of the way and see.

For Text editing test , Futuremark use the WordPad application provided with the current Windows installation and perform search & replace operations on the document which is an 85 Kilobyte text.

WordPad consists of two main parts, the WordPad.exe program itself and its Wordpad engine which is actually part of the Windows operating system.

FMPad.exe is using Wordpad engine which Microsoft has steadily enhanced the WordPad engine over the years while making few corresponding enhancements to the WordPad program.

to boost the performance, you need to know the serect of Wordpad engine.

Hint :
1. Disable Rich Text Format support in Wordpad engine
2. Disable Unicode support in Wordpad engine
3. Force Match whole word Search and Match case Search in
4. Disable Error Level output in Wordpad engine

No DLL Modify required.
